Description

A former coach house and stables, dating from approximately the 1820s, situated within Blithfield Park. The complex comprises four ranges arranged around a rectangular courtyard. The brick construction has been plastered and finished to resemble ashlar. The two-storey buildings feature a moulded parapet band topped by a crenellated parapet. Two battlemented, octagonal turrets are positioned on either side of the main front, which has a 2:1:2 bay arrangement. The front includes a central gatehouse with a slightly raised first floor and parapet. The windows are square-headed with three Tudor-arched lights and returned hood moulds; the gatehouse window features two lights. A central four-centred carriage arch provides access. An attached crenellated wall, approximately 10 yards long, is located to the left and incorporates a four-centred carriage arch flanked by buttresses. The building was undergoing conversion to residential accommodation at the time of resurvey in January 1985.
