Description
These are a pair of 18th-century cottages located back-to-back. They are constructed of painted and roughcast brick with a plain tile roof, featuring gabled ends and brick dentil eaves. The cottages are one storey high with an attic. Originally, they had two window bays, with mullion and transom casement windows. Number 55 now has later gabled dormers and a central plank door. Number 56 has modern windows and a door inserted, along with a large modern bay window to the left. Brick chimney stacks are present at the ends of the buildings. The cottages are included on the list for their contribution to the wider group value of buildings in the area. The listing does not include the adjoining property at number 56A.
