Description
The Church of St Mary the Virgin, built in 1863 by Sir Arthur Blomfield, is a small church constructed from polychrome brick and topped with fish-scale tile roofs. It features a nave with plate traceried windows and a wheel window at the west end. The church has a gabled south porch supported by terracotta columns. The chancel includes a polygonal apse with lancet windows. The north transept contains a small semi-circular apse, while the south transept features a slim tower at the angle, which has a square base and an octagonal upper section topped with a conical spire supported by eight short columns. This building is an early example of Blomfield's work and shows influence from Butterfield.
