Description

The Baxter Monument is a likely late 19th-century squat obelisk situated on a plinth. It features a bronze shield with an inscription that reads: "Richard Baxter great divine author and eminent citizen of the 17th century. Son of Richard Baxter and Beatrice nee Adney born here in Rowton AD 1615. Died in London 1691." Richard Baxter, who lived from 1615 to 1691, was a Presbyterian theologian believed to have resided in a house on the site of Baxter House in Rowton.
