Description
The former calcining works in Middleport, Stoke on Trent, date largely from the early 19th century, though there are later additions that reflect its long period of use. The buildings are constructed of brick and feature tiled roofs, arranged around a central yard. At the center is a square kiln with two flues that are only separated at the apex. To the right, there is a long range that was originally single-storeyed but was raised in the early 20th century to include a narrow tower. Surrounding the site are various single-storey workshops, along with a small gabled building on the left, which may have been an engine house, complete with a tall stack at the side of the gable.
