Description
This building consists of a pair of cottages located at 51, 52, and 53 Longton Road, dating from around 1870, which replaced an earlier structure. The cottages are timber-framed with herringbone brick panel infill and brick extensions, topped with plain tiled roofs. The main range is two bays wide and one-and-a-half storeys high, featuring doorways on either side of two casement windows. One doorway is sheltered by a small porch supported by curved struts. The upper windows are partly set into the roof and are adorned with gabled dormers. On the left side, there is a brick bay that incorporates some 18th-century brickwork, although it is mainly from the 19th century. The brick plinth beneath the framing is likely 18th-century as well, while the timber framing and panel infill are probably from the 19th century. Inside, there is a fireplace bressumer and a ceiling beam that likely originate from the earlier building. The cottages also feature tall fluted axial stacks and have a late 20th-century addition on the right.
