Description

The Arbour Trellis at Trentham Gardens is a structure created in the 1840s as part of Charles Barry’s parterre garden for the 2nd Duke of Sutherland. It is made of cast and wrought iron set on low stone plinths. The trellis runs in a linear fashion from north to south along the east side of the parterre garden.

It features a series of round arches that form a tunnel walkway, with horizontal wires installed along the tunnel for planting. The ends of the trellis have three openings that are at right angles to each other, each adorned with a pair of scroll-shaped brackets at the base. Some of these scrolls have been recast and replaced, while others have been restored.
