Description
The entrance lodges to Trentham Park were built between 1803 and 1813, designed by Charles Heathcote Tatham. Originally situated in front of the west facade of Trentham Hall, they were relocated to their current position in the 1920s.
The lodges are made of heavily rusticated ashlar and are square in plan, connected by a recessed screen and gates. Both lodges are identical, featuring walls with a plinth that is chamfered and topped by a base and pier. The heavily rusticated walls include a round-headed window on each of the four sides, although some of these windows have been blocked. A string course runs around the lodges at the level of the key stones. Each lodge has a three-stepped base leading to a square pier, with an additional three steps on top of the pier. The southern pier has an iron pole that suggests it once had ornamental features.
The railings between the lodges were added after 1930.
