Description

The former pottery works, previously occupied by Dudson's Limited, was established on the site in the 1820s and has a complex history of growth, adaptation, and modification, including a significant expansion in 1872. The buildings are constructed of brick with plain tiled roofs and are arranged around a courtyard. The main range facing Hanover Street features a two-storey entrance block with three bays, an arched entry to the courtyard, and doorways inserted in former windows on the ground floor, with casement windows above. To the left, there is a further range of five bays with single ring cambered heads to the windows, which have been renewed in their original openings. Beyond this, there are two additional bays that are a later addition, adjoining a small house with a central blocked doorway flanked by boarded windows, which have flat-arched stuccoed heads. The other sides of the courtyard contain a series of brick buildings, including a long range to the southeast built in two phases of six and seven bays. A wide circular hovel, partly rendered over, houses the kiln within the courtyard.
