Description

The gates and gate piers located approximately 174 metres to the north-west of Longnor Hall date from the early 18th century and feature four gate piers and three gates from the late 19th century. The gate piers are made of square grey sandstone ashlar, with plinths, chamfered rustication, and moulded caps, which were likely replaced in the mid-19th century. The three painted wooden gates include a central carriage gate flanked by smaller pedestrian gates. The gates have large semi-circular bracing and dog rails, with the centre gate featuring lower diagonal bracing. This entrance was formerly the main carriage access to Longnor Hall from Shrewsbury. The design of the gate piers is similar to another pair located to the north-east of Longnor Hall and a pair to the east of the Church of St. Mary.
