Description

This barn, located approximately 40 metres to the north-west of Shavington Wood Farmhouse, dates from around 1600 and has undergone alterations in the 18th and late 19th centuries. It features a weatherboarded timber frame, with some sections rebuilt using red brick nogging. The left-hand end wall has been rebuilt in 18th-century red brick, and the roof is covered with corrugated iron. The barn has a framing structure consisting of small square panels, with three panels extending from the sole plate to the wall plate, and short curved corner braces. It comprises three framed bays, with three boarded loft doors, a pair of central ground-floor boarded doors, and a pair of large boarded doors on the left side. There are lozenge-shaped vents in the ground-floor brickwork, as well as a boarded loft door in the right-hand gable end and two boarded loft doors at the rear.

Inside, one cross frame remains, supported by a sole plate on a low brick wall and a central post. The interior features collar and tie-beam trusses with queen struts and v-struts, along with pairs of purlins and straight wind braces. The 18th-century brick end wall includes pilaster buttresses and diamond-shaped vents. This barn is part of an early farmstead group that includes Shavington Wood Farmhouse.
