Description
The gateway and flanking walls, located approximately 300 metres to the southeast of Hodnet Hall, were constructed in 1631 and 1954. They are made of yellow and grey sandstone ashlar. The north side features flanking buttresses with chamfered offsets, banded rustication, and voussoirs that return as keystones. There is a frieze adorned with raised rectangular panels and a broken triangular pediment supported by brackets, which includes a central globe finial in the tympanum. A pair of decorative wrought-iron gates is present. The flanking walls are made of tooled ashlar and include ramps leading up to the centre, with square end piers topped with globe finials. This gateway is situated at the southeast corner of the gardens of Hodnet Hall, which was built in 1870 and is not included in this listing. The gateway bears similarities to the main gateway from around 1870 located on Church Street.
