Description

The forecourt walls, gates, gate piers, and pavilions to the north of Yeaton Peverey were built between 1890 and 1892 by Aston Webb. Constructed from snecked red sandstone ashlar, they form a U-plan structure approximately 100 meters long, designed in a free Jacobean style. The plain wall features chamfered coping, with a central gateway on the north side. This gateway is flanked by a pair of square piers, each with nook shafts at the corners, topped with paired arched panels and turned balusters. Above the piers is a moulded cornice and a statue. Between the piers are large ornamental wrought-iron gates that include dog bars, an ornamental lock, top bars, decorative panels with scrollwork, and elaborate scrolled cresting with repoussé work.

There are lower flanking pedestrian gateways featuring moulded elliptical arches, hood-moulds, and small wrought-iron gates. At the corners of the forecourt are small one-storey square pavilions, placed diagonally, each with a chamfered plinth, cornice, parapet, and a domed lead roof with a finial. The pavilions also have 2-light chamfered mullioned stone windows on the front. These forecourt walls are part of the original landscape scheme for Yeaton Peverey.
