Description

Peverey House Cottage is a gate lodge to Yeaton Peverey, built in 1892 by Aston Webb. The cottage features snecked red sandstone ashlar and a timber-framed first floor with closely-spaced uprights and a middle rail, along with a slate roof. It has a T-plan and is designed in a Domestic Revival style, standing two storeys tall.

On the south-west front, there is a chamfered offset to the first floor, jettied gable ends with shallow ogee-moulded cambered tie-beams and curved brackets, and moulded barge boards with pierced pendants. The rear has a parapeted gable end with coping and a globe finial at the apex. There are external ashlar stacks at the rear and an ashlar ridge stack on the rear wing, both featuring moulded cornices.

All windows are casements with leaded lights. The ground floor includes a two-light chamfered mullioned stone window to the left, and a gabled ashlar break off-centre to the right, which has a chamfered plinth and an offset, along with a parapeted gable that also has coping and a globe finial at the apex. The first floor features a three-light chamfered mullioned stone window and a boarded door with chamfered reveals, a moulded elliptical archway, and a square hoodmould with lozenge-shaped stops, raised to the centre over a square date stone.

The left-hand gable end has a first-floor wooden oriel window with 1:2:1 lights supported by shaped brackets, and a ground-floor three-light chamfered mullioned stone window. A king-post truss with decorative curved braces is visible in the gable. The right-hand gable end features a first-floor three-light mullioned wooden casement and a ground-floor two-light chamfered mullioned stone window. The ashlar rear wing has a three-light window in the gable end. The interior has not been inspected. This cottage is one of a pair of lodges to Yeaton Peverey, also designed by Aston Webb.
