Description
The former brewery, now used as a store, dates from the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick with Welsh slate roofs and comprises four main buildings.
To the east is a single-storey, wide-span structure with 8 arcaded bays. The south elevation has inserted doors and windows, and some blocked openings in the gable wall. The north side, overlooking the river, has 8 arcaded bays on a battered basement storey, with original windows remaining in 4 bays, each with a single ring cambered head. The interior has an open roof with queen post roof trusses.
Adjoining this building to the west and stepping forward is a two-storey range of three bays with one large and two narrow segmental blind arches. An inserted door and sash window are on the right, with traces of original openings visible on the left. Upper windows have single ring cambered heads and iron glazing bars, likely original. The river elevation has 7 arcaded bays with a blocked door in the central bay and original windows with fixed lights, some of which have been renewed.
A further building, possibly a later addition, is to the rear with a flat roof and a four-window range. To the west of the 7-bay building, also stepping forward, is a short, three-storey block with inserted windows in the east-facing gable end, and the remains of original openings now blocked and covered by inserts. A semicircular projection from the angle has also been altered by later additions. The building has dentilled eaves and a coped gable.
Adjoining the three-storey block to the west and stepping forward is a four-storey tower with an adjoining chimney. Inserted windows are on the lower floors, while traces of original openings remain above on each floor. The four-storey river-facing gable end has blocked Venetian windows on each floor, and a blocked semicircular window above.
The brewery has been extensively altered, particularly in the late 20th century with the insertion of new openings that necessitated the removal of part of the west wall.
