Description
The building is a railway transhipment shed, constructed around 1874 for the Cambrian Railway Company, and is now used as a museum. It is built from English garden wall bond stock brick with a blue brick plinth weathering and a band at the gable end. The roof is made of asbestos tiles with gabled ends. The shed has a rectangular plan and features two loading bay doorways on the east front that open to a platform inside, which serves a railway track at the rear, with trains entering from the south end.
The exterior is a single storey. The east front includes two large plank double doors set in elliptically headed openings, along with four large later raking buttresses made of blue engineering brick. The south end has vertical boarding and a railway track entrance on the left. The north end features a large 16-pane sash window to the left and a small redbrick weighbridge office with a slate lean-to roof, which has horizontally sliding sashes with glazing bars.
Inside, there is a boarded platform floor and a railway track to the west, along with a seven-bay queen-post roof structure.
