Description
The building known as Cranswick Garage, originally holding sheds, dates from the mid to late 19th century and was constructed for the North Eastern Railway, possibly designed by G T Andrews. It is built from reddish-brown brick in English garden wall bond, with the rear and left range colourwashed, and features ashlar dressings and a Welsh slate roof. The structure is a single tall storey with two bays and an additional range to the left.
The central entrance consists of double plank doors set beneath a round arch made of gauged brick. On either side of the entrance are semicircular, multi-paned fixed-light windows, also under round arches of gauged brick, with a continuous sill band. The eaves overhang, and the roof is hipped to the left. There is a side stack, and the left range includes a side entrance with a glazed door and a 12-pane sash window, both set under flat arches of gauged brick.
