Description
Newton Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse with later alterations. It features a timber-framed structure, with the ground floor having painted uncoursed rubble re-facing, a rendered first floor, and slate roofs. The building is designed in a baffle entry style, consisting of four framed bays and an additional framed bay wing at the rear. It stands two storeys tall, with a basement and a gable-lit attic. The framing consists of square panels with tension braces, and there is a large ridge stack located above the door, which is off-centre to the right. The front has three windows fitted with 19th-century wooden casements. The entrance includes a six-panelled door, with the top two panels glazed, positioned off-centre to the right between the first and second windows from the right. There was a former porch in the angle to the rear. Inside, the farmhouse has double queen strut roof trusses with double trenched purlins, grain bins in the attic, chamfered beams and joists, a double ogee-headed doorway on the ground floor, and a cheese press located in the basement.
