Description

The Old Rectory is a cottage dating to the late 16th or early 17th century, with later additions and alterations. It is characterised by its half-timbered construction, with plastered infilling between the timbers. The roof is slate-covered, and a prominent brick stack rises from the centre, featuring three attached shafts and an ornamental stone capping. The cottage originally had a lobby entry plan and likely comprised four structural bays. The eaves display four square panels, with short tension braces. The first floor has three small casement windows, those to the left and right incorporating 20th-century diamond panes. The ground floor includes a tripartite sash window with horns to the left and a 3-light wooden mullioned and transomed casement to the right. A central gabled porch, largely reconstructed, features bargeboards and an inscription reading “MICoMIWo1682” above the arch, containing an 8-panelled 19th-century door. The right-hand gable end is clad in stone, while the left-hand gable end retains jettying to the attic floor.
