Description
This barn, located approximately 40 metres south of Brand Hall, dates from the mid-17th century with alterations and additions made in the 18th century. It features a timber frame with red brick nogging set on a red brick plinth, and has been partly rebuilt and extended in red brick. The roof is covered with plain tiles. The framing consists of rectangular panels, with two extending from the high sole plate to the wall plate. The barn has three framed bays, which have been extended by half a bay at each end. The 18th-century extensions at both ends include plat bands, shaped stone kneelers, and honeycomb vents, which are also present in the side panels. There is a central cart entrance on the north-west side. Inside, the barn contains two framed cross walls with brick plinths, tension braces, and tie-beam trusses made from reused timbers, along with raking struts. The northern truss features raking struts, while the southern king-post truss dates from the 18th or 19th century. The roof structure includes single and pairs of purlins, and there are lean-to pigsties located to the south-east.
