Description

GREAT NESS C.P. GREAT NESS SJ 31 NE 4/118 Pair of Wingfield - memorials approx. 20 metres to south-east of Church of Saint Andrew

GV II

Pair of chest tombs. Mid-to late C18. Yellow/grey sandstone. Each tomb with moulded plinth, baluster-shaped sides and ends, and moulded cornice to flat top. The tomb to the south is inscribed to Thomas Wingfield (d. January 1762) but the tomb to the south was largely illegible at the time of survey (January 1987). Both chest tombs are of an unusual design.
