Description
Llynaven and the former stable adjoining to the east is a farmhouse and attached outbuilding dating from the 14th or 15th century, with alterations and additions made in the late 16th or 17th century and mid-to-late 19th century. The building is timber framed, constructed using cruck techniques, and has been partly rebuilt and extended with coursed rubble and coursed and squared limestone, with some areas rendered. It features a slate roof and may have originally been a hallhouse with two or three framed bays, along with later additions.
The structure has an asymmetrically gabled front, with a lateral brick stack on the left and two brick ridge stacks on the right. To the left, there are two large projecting gabled wings that include mid-to-late 19th century three-light wooden casements. In front of the left-hand gabled wing is a rendered timber framed gabled porch that is two stories high, supported by brackets under the jettied gable-end. The first floor has a three-light 19th century wooden casement, while the ground floor features a half-glazed door with flanking 20th century glazing, set back inside the porch.
To the right, there is a low range that includes a gabled eaves-dormer on the left with a two-light casement, and on the ground floor, there is a segmental-headed two-light wooden casement and a two-leaf boarded door to the left. The stable on the right has two glazing bar sashes flanking a central door. Inside, three full cruck trusses are partly visible, with the possibility of more concealed within the structure. The interior also features chamfered beams with plain stops and a large open fireplace with a chamfered lintel.
