Description

This milestone, located to the north of No. 35 on The Mount in Shrewsbury, was erected between 1826 and 1827 by the engineer Thomas Telford. It is made of painted limestone and features a battered rectangular shape with a shallow pointed head. A recessed cast iron plate displays raised lettering that reads "Holyhead 106m" and "Salop 0m 6F". This milestone is notable for being the first on the Holyhead Road.
