Description

Holywell Terrace comprises a row of twelve early 19th-century houses located on the south side of Holywell Street, Shrewsbury. The terrace is constructed of brick with plain tiled roofs and is arranged symmetrically, featuring three projecting bays on each side. Each house follows a double-pile plan. The original doorways are set within simple architraves, although porches have been added to numbers 2 and 10. The ground floor windows are sash windows, but canted bay windows have been added to numbers 1, 3, and 10, with a two-storeyed bay window added to number 2. A continuous balcony with a wrought-iron rail on timber posts runs along the first floor of the central six houses, with paired French windows at the first-floor level. Sash windows are present in the outer units and on the upper floors throughout the terrace. Gabled dormers, pedimented to the end houses, light the attic space. Brick end wall stacks are also present.
