The Mount Hotel and adjoining screen wall

The Mount Hotel, originally a house, dates from the early 19th century, with later additions from the late 19th century at the rear. It is constructed of red brick with some sandstone ashlar dressings and features a two-span slate roof. The building has two storeys and a gable-lit attic.

The façade includes a pair of segmental bows, each with a plinth, a raised eaves band, and dentil bricks that form a moulded wooden cornice topped with a stone blocking course. The central bay has a raised parapet with a stone frieze and a triangular pediment. The gable ends are parapeted, featuring stone copings and shaped stone kneelers, with integral brick end stacks. The building is divided into three bays, with boxed glazing bar sashes that have painted stone cills and lintels. The central first-floor sash has been replaced by a 20th-century casement. The central entrance features a 20th-century half-glazed door flanked by side-lights, topped by a segmental radial fanlight with fluted-fan spandrels and a plain architrave, frieze, and cornice. A flat-roofed porch with a moulded cornice and cast-iron supports, which have an intersecting circular motif and quatrefoils at the corners, leads to the door, approached by a flight of six stone steps, with the lower three steps having curved corners. The gable ends also feature early 19th-century fluted semi-circular rainwater heads.

To the right, there is a two-storey service block set back, which has lean-to and hipped roofs, a dentil brick eaves cornice, and a brick lateral stack. The first floor contains two glazing bar sashes, while the ground floor is obscured by an adjoining brick screen wall that has a grey sandstone ashlar impost band and moulded coping. There is a door to the left with six flush panels and a recessed semi-circular tympanum.

The interior has not been fully inspected, but the entrance corridor features raised and fielded dado panelling and a depressed archway at the rear with fluted pilasters.
