Description
Dinham House is a house, now functioning as a craft centre, built in the early 18th century. It is constructed of brick and features a hipped slate roof with some composite tiles and various brick stacks. The building has a double-depth plan and is symmetrical with two storeys, an attic, and a basement. It has a five-window range with 6/6 sash windows set under gauged brick arches. There are short advanced wings on either side, each containing two similar windows. The exterior is adorned with a moulded wood modillion cornice and a stone-coped parapet, along with seven box dormers that have 2-light casements under cambered heads and moulded cornices.
The central entrance is accessed by steps and wrought-iron railings, featuring an 8-panel door within a moulded wood doorcase that has a shouldered architrave, topped by a moulded wood pediment on enriched consoles. The flanking windows are similar in style, and there is an ashlar storey band above the basement windows.
To the left side, there is a protruding semi-circular wing from the mid-18th century with a tiled roof. This wing has two storeys and a basement, featuring three late 19th-century 2/2 sash windows under gauged brick flat arches on the first floor, and plain sash windows under rendered lintels on the ground floor.
The rear elevation has a slightly advanced central bay, with steps and wrought-iron railings leading to a half-glazed door with an overlight in a plain doorcase. This doorcase has a shouldered architrave beneath a moulded pediment hood and fluted frieze on fluted consoles, with similar fenestration as the front. There are four box dormers with 3/3 sashes under moulded cornices.
Inside, the house features an open well staircase with turned balusters, a moulded rail, and a panelled dado. The interior also includes plasterwork panelling and cornices, as well as wood, marble, and bolection-moulded fireplaces.
