Group of 6 Chest Tombs Approximately 12 Metres to South of South Aisle of Church of All Saints

This is a group of six chest tombs located approximately 12 metres south of the south aisle of the Church of All Saints. They date from the late 18th century to the early 19th century and are made of grey sandstone ashlar.

The north-western tomb features raised and fielded panels with fluted pilaster strips on the sides, and a moulded cornice on a chamfered top with pedimented ends. It commemorates Elizabeth Elsmere, who died on 24th January 1816 at the age of 17, and John Elsmere, who died on 22nd June 1868 at the age of 72.

The western tomb also has raised and fielded panels with fluted pilaster strips and a moulded cornice on a flat top, dedicated to John Lawrence of Berrington, who died on 23rd November 1806 at the age of 80.

The south-western tomb features recessed semi-circular side panels with incised spandrels decorated with anthemion ornament, flanked by pilaster strips with anthemion ornament. It has end panels with incised borders and a moulded cornice on a chamfered top, commemorating Margaret Ramell, who died on 13th September 1842 at the age of 77.

The north-eastern tomb has raised and fielded side panels with flanking fluted pilaster strips, blank end panels, and a moulded cornice on a chamfered top.

The eastern tomb has plain side panels and plain end piers, with a chamfered top featuring raised ends, dedicated to Elizabeth Lawrence, who died in 1860. The earlier inscription is illegible as of March 1985.

The south-eastern tomb includes a plinth, raised and fielded panels with fluted pilaster strips on the sides, and a moulded cornice on a chamfered top, dedicated to Ann, the wife of John Lawrence.
