Description

Arscott House is an early 17th-century farmhouse with later additions and alterations. The building is timber-framed with painted brick infill and cladding, and has plain tile roofs. It comprises a hall range with a projecting jettied cross-wing at the north end, set beneath a lower roof. The hall range has two storeys and a gable-lit attic. The front of the hall has a three-window arrangement, with late 19th-century casement windows. The upper left window is blocked, and the ground-floor windows have segmental heads. A central entrance is accessed via a mid-20th-century hip-roofed porch, and a prominent brick ridge stack has triangular pilaster shafting at its base. The cross-wing has one late 19th-century casement window on each floor, and a plastered bressumer supported on carved corner brackets. Exposed wall plates and double purlin ends are visible on the gable, along with rectangular panelling and short tension braces to the right-hand return. Another ridge stack is located at the junction of the cross-wing and the hall range’s gable end. The interior has not been inspected.
