Description

CLUN C.P. CHAPEL LAWN Former house approximately 10 metres to South-east of North-easterly Chapel Lawn Farmhouse

GV II

House, now garage, store and granary. C17, remodelled, probably in the mid C19. Weatherboarded timber frame; coursed and roughly squared limestone plinth and gable-end wall; corrugated iron roof. T-plan. 2 faced bays aligned East-west with wing to North. One storey and attic. Framing: square panels, 3 up to wall plate. 2 boarded windows to road; garage doors at North-west to rear and open ground floor with boarded loft door above to North-east at rear. Interior: truncated integral end stack with fireplace in ground floor room to West; timber framed cross-wall; white-washed and stencil-patterned beams, joists and wall timbers in ground floor room to East. C17 stencilled patterns are now quite rare in the area, no doubt surviving here because of the building's change from domestic to agricultural use. The house was remodelled and incorporated in an L-plan range of farmbuildings in the mid-C19 (not included). The North-easterly Chapel Lawn Farmhouse is not included in this list.
