Description
This former house, now used as a garage, store, and granary, is located approximately 10 metres to the southeast of the north-easterly Chapel Lawn Farmhouse. It dates from the 17th century and was remodelled, likely in the mid-19th century. The building features a weatherboarded timber frame with a coursed and roughly squared limestone plinth and gable-end wall, topped with a corrugated iron roof. It has a T-plan layout with two faced bays aligned east-west and a wing to the north. The structure is one storey with an attic, showcasing square panels in the framing, with three panels reaching up to the wall plate. There are two boarded windows facing the road, garage doors at the north-west to the rear, and an open ground floor with a boarded loft door above to the north-east at the rear.
Inside, there is a truncated integral end stack with a fireplace in the ground floor room to the west, a timber-framed cross-wall, and white-washed and stencil-patterned beams, joists, and wall timbers in the ground floor room to the east. The 17th-century stencilled patterns are quite rare in the area and have likely survived due to the building's conversion from domestic to agricultural use. The house was remodelled and incorporated into an L-plan range of farm buildings in the mid-19th century, which are not included in this listing. The north-easterly Chapel Lawn Farmhouse is also not included in this list.
