Description

The Old Granary is likely a 17th-century granary, later converted into a house, with additions and alterations primarily from the late 20th century. It is timber-framed with rendered infill, set on an uncoursed limestone rubble plinth that rises to first-floor level at the rear on the east and west sides, and to the south gable end. The roof is covered in plain tiles. The building is two stories high. The timber framing consists of square panels arranged in a criss-cross pattern, similar to that found on the south gable of a barn located to the east. External chimney stacks are present. A gabled stone porch was added to the east side, along with a gallery to the south gable end, both during the late 20th-century conversion to domestic use. The interior has been significantly altered, but retains a double-purlin roof in two bays, although the centre truss is now largely concealed. The granary originally served Lower House, which is nearby. This building is included on the list for its contribution to the group value of the surrounding buildings.
