Description

Harpton House and the adjoining shop date from the early to mid-19th century, with possible earlier elements to the rear. The house is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, dressed to the front, with slate roofs. It comprises two parallel ranges. The house has a plinth, deep eaves, and a brick ridge stack positioned off-centre to the left, an integral brick end-stack to the left, a semi-integral brick and stone end-stack to the right, and a stack to the right on the rear range. The front features four bays with glazing bar sashes, exposed boxes, and flat arches. Two steps lead to the front door, located in the second bay from the right; the door is a 6-panel design with a 3-part overlight and a flat hood supported by wrought iron brackets. The shop front on the left is early to mid-19th century, featuring two 2-part shop windows with panelling beneath, and quadrant corners to a recessed pair of half-glazed panelled doors with overlight, all within a pilastered surround with a moulded cornice. Inside the house, windows have internal panelled shutters.
