Description
Pentrehyling House is a farmhouse, now a house, likely built in the early to mid-18th century with later additions and alterations. It is constructed of uncoursed limestone rubble and features a slate roof. The building has two storeys and a gable-lit attic, along with a cellar. The front has three windows, which are segmental-headed flush-framed multi-paned casements from the mid-19th century, with the ground floor windows having leaded lights. There is a central entrance with a plank door that also has a segmental arch, topped by a late 19th-century gabled hood. The external end stacks have been rebuilt in late 19th-century red brick.
At the rear on the left, there is a mid-19th-century two-storey lean-to range, which likely once served as a separate cottage. Inside, the house features massive chamfered parallel ceiling beams with stop-chamfered heavy joists in the two main ground-floor rooms. A central staircase with shaped brackets on a cut string leads to the first flight and rises to the attic. Several wide-boarded 18th-century doors with H-hinges are present, and the roof structure consists of collar and tie beams in three bays. There is a late 20th-century flat-roofed extension to the right, which is not of special architectural interest.
