Description
This barn, located approximately 40 metres southeast of Ightfield Hall, dates from the mid-17th century. It is constructed with a timber frame and features red brick nogging on a brick plinth, with some parts rebuilt in red brick. The roof is covered with plain tiles. The framing includes tall rectangular lower panels and a top tier of small square panels, supported by straight braces. The barn consists of six framed bays and is one storey high with a loft. There are five loft openings, some of which have boarded doors, and seven ground-floor boarded doors, paired to the left. The structure has collar and tie-beam end trusses with queen struts and V-struts. The loft floor is present in the left-hand bay and features a chamfered beam. The interior was not inspected, but it was noted that the roof of the left-hand bay had collapsed during the survey in October 1986. This barn is part of a complete farmstead group that includes Ightfield Hall.
