Description

A group of four chest tombs dating from the early 19th century is located approximately 6 metres south of the chancel of the Church of the Holy Trinity in Minsterley. These tombs are made of dressed grey sandstone.

The north-east tomb features semi-circular recessed side panels with flanking fluted pilaster strips, raised oval end panels, and a moulded cornice on its flat top, which was broken in two at the time of the survey in July 1985. It is inscribed to Thomas Green, who died in 1803.

The south-east tomb has panels with incised borders and quadrant corners, side panels with flanking incised pilaster strips, and a moulded cornice on its chamfered top. It is inscribed to Mytton Skrymsheb, a surgeon who died on February 12, 1837.

The north-west tomb is of the sarcophagus type, featuring a moulded base, panelled sides, and a moulded cornice on its chamfered top. It is inscribed to Edward Green, who died on October 9, 1805.

The south-west tomb has an invisible base and includes recessed moulded semi-circular side panels with fluted fan decoration in the spandrels, flanking panelled pilaster strips, recessed square end panels, and a moulded cornice on its chamfered top. It is inscribed to John Nealor of Minsterley Hall, who died on May 8, 1829.
