Description

The Cobblestones is likely a pair of cottages that have been combined into one dwelling. It dates from the mid- to late 17th century and was restored, probably in the early 20th century. The building features a timber frame with plastered and painted brick infill, and part of the rear has been rebuilt in painted brick. It has a plain tile roof and a baffle-entry design with a plan consisting of four framed bays. The framing includes large square panels, with two extending from the sole-plate to the wall-plate, and short straight corner braces.

The front of the building has three late 19th-century timber-framed gabled eaves dormers, as well as one at the rear, all featuring 2-light leaded wooden casements. There is an off-centre painted brick ridge stack located to the right. The front has three windows, which are likely early 20th-century two-light leaded wooden casements, and a panelled and boarded door situated between the first and second windows from the right. The gable ends display exposed collar and tie-beam trusses with queen struts, and there is a lean-to addition at the rear.

Although the interior was not inspected, it was noted that the internal partition wall dividing the left-hand bays has been removed. Historically, this house served as "The Miners Co-operative Stores" in the late 19th century, representing an early example of a co-operative association organized by local lead miners, as mentioned in D. T. Merry's "The History of Minsterley."
