Description

The Shropshire Union Canal Bridge Number 79 is a canal bridge built around 1796 by engineers William Jessop and Thomas Telford. It is constructed of red brick and features a coped parapet. The bridge has a segmental arch, a string course, and corner piers. This section of the Ellesmere Canal was opened in 1796 to connect with the Montgomeryshire Canal at Carreghofa and became part of the Shropshire Union in 1846.
