Description

The Fields is a farmhouse, dating from 1737 with substantial remodelling in 1833, and further later additions and alterations. The main house is constructed of red brick with a hipped slate roof and axial ridge stacks to the left and right. The two-storey, three-window front features glazing bar sashes with 16 panes to the first floor and 20 panes to the ground floor, including a dummy window centrally at the top. A half-glazed door with a rectangular overlight is set within a plain Doric porch. A lead downpipe to the rear displays the inscription "JD/1833".

A contemporary red brick range, which may have been a former outbuilding, is set at an oblique angle to the rear of the main house and is linked to it by a mid-19th century connecting range. This rear range is two storeys with a floor band, has three bays, but has had its fenestration and ground-floor openings altered in the late 20th century, and features a prominent ridge stack to the right. A datestone marked "ID/1737" is visible on the back wall.

A late 18th century red brick garden wall extends along the north and south sides of the rear range, enclosing a rectangular area approximately 50 metres by 25 metres.
