Description

The Brown Morgan Memorial is a chest tomb located approximately 30 metres to the north-west of the north porch of the Church of St George. It dates from around 1840 and is made of sandstone ashlar. The memorial features a chamfered plinth and sunken panels, with an unusual corner treatment that includes Tuscan columns—one full column at the corner and engaged quadrant columns on each side. The top of the tomb is also chamfered. It commemorates Thomas Brown Morgan, who died in 1840, and is an example of a memorial type that is specific to the area, similar to several other memorials found in the churchyard.
