Description
The former toll house, located approximately 16 metres to the west of Acacia House, dates back to around 1768 and is now disused. It is constructed from painted coursed sandstone rubble with red brick dressings and features a slate roof, which has been removed from the front and graded at the rear. The building is designed in the Gothick style and stands two storeys tall. It has a toothed brick eaves cornice and an external stone end stack on the right, which has a later brick top. The front has two windows; the first-floor features round-arched two-light wooden casements with Y-tracery, flanking a central blind round-arched panel. The ground floor has ogee-headed windows with pairs of boarded shutters, and there is a central half-glazed door. The left-hand corner of the front is chamfered. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is said to contain a late 18th-century cast iron fireplace with Adamesque decoration. The Minsterley - Worthen road was turnpiked in 1768.
