Description
The dovecote, located approximately 20 metres to the south-east of Golding, dates from the early to mid-18th century. It is constructed of red brick and features a pyramidal plain tile roof with a hexagonal shape. The building has a dentil brick eaves cornice and a hexagonal wooden glover with shaped-headed openings, topped with a pyramidal lead cap and a spike finial.
The dovecote is two storeys high, with a loft that includes a circular opening on the south side and a segmental-headed doorway on the south-east. There are small square windows on the ground floor to the south and north, along with a segmental-headed boarded doorway on the south-west side.
Inside, the ground floor has a shallow brick domed roof. It is suggested that the dovecote may have been located in the loft, accessed by a ladder from the south-east, while the ground floor might have served another purpose, possibly as a kennel. This dovecote is likely contemporary with the 18th-century remodelling of Golding. The adjoining pigsties to the east are not included in this listing.
