Description
The Doddington War Memorial is a First World War memorial located in a churchyard, erected in 1921.
It features a wheel-head cross made of rough-hewn limestone, which has a tapered shaft set on a tapered plinth that rests on a two-stepped base. The cross is oriented to face south towards the road. The cross has a Celtic design, and both the cross and the relatively short shaft are carved from a single piece of stone.
The deep plinth is tapered and includes the inscription: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY / OF THE FOLLOWING MEN OF THIS PARISH / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR / 1914 – 1918/ (NAMES)/ LIVE THOU FOR ENGLAND - WE FOR ENGLAND DIED." The two steps of the base have chamfered tops.
