Description
This is an early 19th century squatter’s cottage with an attached cowshed. The cottage is constructed of dhustone with a plain tile roof and a projecting stone left gable stack. It is two storeys high, featuring a two-light casement window on both floors, and a ground-floor entrance. A wing extends to the rear. The large, stepped stone stack is characteristic of a squatter’s cottage. Adjacent to the cottage is an integral single-storey cowshed, with two doors and a corrugated sheet roof. The interior of the cottage reportedly retains its original plan form, including a narrow stairway. A 20th-century fireplace has been inserted into what was likely an original space. This is a little-altered and rare example of such a cottage within the squatter's hamlet of Doddington, located near the Clee Hill mining and quarrying area.
