Description

The barn and stables, now a milking parlour, are located approximately 30 metres to the west of Dinthill Hall and date from around 1734, with some minor alterations and additions made in the late 20th century. The structure is built of red brick and features a plain tile roof. It has a central entrance and ground-floor stables at each end, consisting of one storey and a loft. The building includes vertical vents and parapeted gables, two of which have stone coping.

On the north front, there is a central gabled break with a segmental-headed, two-light loft casement and a large segmental-headed cart entrance with hinge blocks. The flanking set-back ranges each have a pair of segmental-hooded two-light wooden casements beside a central segmental-headed doorway. The right-hand doorway retains a chamfered wooden frame and a gabled hood supported by carved shaped brackets. The left-hand range has been slightly altered, featuring a boarded right-hand window, a blocked left-hand window (partly obscured by an inserted doorway), and a blocked central doorway. The gable ends have loft doors, with the right-hand one partly blocked, and small circular stone owl holes in the apices above. The left side of the front wall has been partly obscured by some late 20th-century lean-to additions. This barn and stable are part of the farm buildings associated with Dinthill Hall, which also includes a dovecote. Despite the minor alterations, it remains a complete and well-detailed example of an unusual combined building type.
