Description
This is a sundial located approximately 15 metres to the west of Hawkstone Hall, dating from around 1900. It is made of grey sandstone ashlar and features a large square base with three steps, adorned with carved lions positioned diagonally at each corner. The sundial has a tapered octagonal shaft that includes a carved capital and base, with crowns on alternate faces. It also has a reused copper dial plate, which is signed: "EDMUND CULPEPPER / C fecit 1708," along with a gnomon. Notably, the sundial does not appear in a photograph of the west front of Hawkstone Hall taken around 1870.
