Description
The Lion's Den is a disused park feature located in Weston-under-Hawkstone Park, likely dating from the late 18th century and associated with Sir Richard Hill, the second baronet of Hawkstone. It consists of a round-headed recess carved into natural sandstone at the eastern end of a ditch that separates the upper and lower wards of Red Castle. The interior retains the bottom ends of two bars from an iron grille and features a recess in the stone floor that once held a painted stone statue of a lion. There is also a small rock-cut 'window' in the back wall.
