Description

This former farmhouse, located approximately 100 metres to the west of Dairy Farmhouse, is a late 16th and 17th century building that is now disused. It is timber framed with rendered infill panels, some of which have been replaced with brick nogging. The roof is covered with plain tiles. The framing features close studding from the 16th century with a middle rail and S-shaped tension braces, along with 17th century small square panels, which include four from the sole plate to the wall plate, and corner braces. The building has an L-plan layout, consisting of a 17th century range with two or three framed bays and a 16th century gabled cross-wing on the left.

The farmhouse is two storeys high, with a brick stack located behind the ridge off-centre to the right, a brick end stack to the left, and an external brick end stack for the cross wing. There are two first-floor and three ground-floor windows, featuring 19th century two- and three-light wooden casements, along with a central doorway. To the right, there is a one-storey brick lean-to added in the 19th century. The right-hand gable displays a collar and tie-beam truss with queen struts and V-struts. The cross wing has a blocked first-floor window on the return, with a gap in the framing beneath, possibly indicating where a window has been removed. The gable end of the cross wing also has a collar and tie-beam truss with queen struts. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is likely to be of interest. Close inspection of the exterior was not possible, but it appears that the eaves of the cross wing may have been raised at some point, as suggested by the braces to the apparently former wall plate. This building was previously known as Sutton Farmhouse.
