Description
The stable block, located approximately 15 metres to the west of Berrington Hall, dates from around 1805 and is likely designed by Joseph Bromfield, who lived from circa 1743 to 1824. It is constructed of red brick and features a hipped slate roof, following a T-plan layout. The building has two storeys and includes a rendered frieze and a small brick ridge stack that is off-centre to the right.
On the first floor, there are five two-light leaded wooden casements and a door to the left with four flush panels, which is accessed by 15 external stone steps that have a wrought iron balustrade and a segmental-arched recess beneath. The ground floor has four blind windows with gauged brick heads; the second window from the left possibly contains an inserted segmental-headed door with six flush panels. There is also a likely inserted small sash window to the right of the six-panelled door and another probable inserted door at the far right.
The central projecting block on the ground floor has a hipped roof and consists of two bays. It features glazing bar sashes with gauged heads and a segmental-headed door on the right-hand return front, which also has six flush panels. At the rear, there is a pair of large segmental-headed two-leaf doors.
Inside, the stable has stalls with curved-top dividers and octagonal posts topped with finials. This stable block is part of a group that includes Berrington Hall.
