Description
The Methodist Chapel, dated 1869, is a field chapel located in Stoke St Milborough. It is constructed of pinkish-red brick with stucco that imitates ashlar on the front facade and left side, topped with a plain tile roof. The building is a single-storey rectangle featuring a front porch. The entrance is framed by round-arched, multi-pane windows with cast-iron glazing bars, and the margin lights contain original coloured glass. These windows are set in shallow reveals with chamfered brick sills. The bargeboards on the front gable and porch are broadly scalloped and topped with finials at the apex.
Inside, the chapel retains simple bench pews. The reading desk is raised, accessible by steps on either side, and features a balustrade with turned balusters at the ends. The interior is finished with plank panelling to the dado throughout and includes a peg rail. The roof is ceiled at the apex but reveals two king post tie beam trusses with curved angle braces supported on corbel brackets.
