Description
This barn, located approximately 15 meters south-east of Fold Farmhouse, dates from the late 17th century and has undergone some later alterations. It features a timber frame that is weatherboarded and clad in corrugated iron, with rubblestone on the south gable end and a slate roof. The barn is constructed in two sections, with two bays to the right of a break. The framing consists of square and rectangular panels, with two panels extending from the cill to the wall-plate on the left part, and vertical posts on the back wall of the right part. There is an entrance at the far left and external lateral stone steps leading to the loft at the left gable end. Inside, the barn has a double-purlin roof spanning five bays, with raking struts connecting the tie beams to the principal rafters and braces from the wall posts to the tie beams. The loft occupies the three left bays and the barn encloses the east side of the farmyard.
