Description
The Old House is a mid-19th century house located in Shrewsbury. It is constructed of red brick with yellow brick dressings and has a Welsh slate roof. The building has two storeys, an attic, and a basement, featuring a two-window range with a side entrance. The main elevation faces the river and includes a wide gable on the right, which has a slightly projecting three-light wood mullioned and transomed window with a pedimented wood head on the principal floor, alongside a mullioned and transomed oriel window. On the upper floor, there are two-light casement windows with stilted arched yellow brick hoodmoulds. The gables have ornate fretted barge-boards, and the eaves project on wood brackets.
The elevation facing Canonbury features a wide gable on the left with a two-storeyed lean-to porch on the inner face. This porch has a round-arched doorway with a six-panelled door and stilted arched windows above. In the gable over the porch, there is a three-light window with Gothick traceried lights and shafts as mullions. Additionally, there is a wide two-light mullioned and transomed stair window in the return gable elevation, along with two-light mullioned and transomed windows to its right on each floor. The house has end wall stacks.
